Wheelchair Measurement Guide
How do I know if my wheelchair will fit inside a wheelchair adapted vehicle? We ask for measurements of your wheelchair to ensure the correct fitment inside a wheelchair adapted vehicle. Each conversion company has a slightly different way of converting a vehicle into one has wheelchair access, so they are NOT all the same.
The wheelchair width is important (so you measure across the widest point). The height of the person sitting in their wheelchair (so from the floor to the top of their head) is a huge factor in what wheelchair adapted vehicle will suit. Although a lowered floor means there is a greater entrance height, there are still some vehicles that are surprisingly small in entrance height terms. If of course, you are not physically able to do this, perhaps ask a friend or relative to help you.
If you wish to use a mobility scooter in a wheelchair adapted vehicle, then the length is very important, so again measure this and the width as well. If you are not physically able to do this you can just provide full details of your mobility scooter make and model and we will find this out for you. Generally, individuals do not stay seated on the mobility scooter whilst the vehicle is in motion, but if you choose to stay seated on your scooter please ensure that you measure the height from the floor to the top of the person's head.
